2024 Mt. Washington Expedition​

In 2024, 13 intrepid Cabells and Colemans spanning 3 generations braved Mt. Washington.

 

The expedition left at the crack of dawn and made good time up the mountain, but few knew it was going down that was the real challenge.  The group heeded the warning of the 1936 AMC guide:

 

The appalling and needless loss of life on this mountain have been due largely to the failure of robust trampers to realize that wintry storms of incredible violence occur at times even during the summer months. Rocks become ice coated, freezing fog blinds .and suffocates. Winds of hurricane force exhaust the strongest tramper. And when he stops to rest, the temperature below freezing completes the tragedy. Do not attempt Mt Washington if you have a weak heart or are in any way below par.
